Why was there a sharp increase in numbers of women in the workforce in 1945?

In 1945, America was in full participation in World War II, both on the Pacific Front and in Western Europe. This led to thousands and thousands of American men serving in the Armed Forces, fighting on the battlefront against the Germans and the Japanese.

This meant an imbalance in production on the internal front, due to the lack of workers in the different factories that supplied the forces on the front lines.

For this reason, the federal government encouraged women's work in positions that until then had been carried out by men. Thus, thousands and thousands of women began working as factory operators and various other activities until then only carried out by men.
