The knights of labor were founded in 1869, it was a secret organization of tailors in Philadelphia. the organization became a national organization after the election of Terence V. Powderly as its head. It didn't discriminate against the workers based on their skills, sex or race. At the height of its popularity, it had over 700, 000 members. Although it had rejected strike as a tactic it still manages to solve labor disputes against the Union Pacific Railroad in 1884. It also worked as labor union and negotiated with employers. The organization declined by 1884 was closed in 1949.
