During Jackson's term in office he refused to use Federal troops to protect the Cherokee tribe.

In 1829, the first year of Jackson's term, Georgia invaded 4,000,000 hectares of Cherokees territory, in which gold had been discovered. The tribe ended up appealing to the Supreme Court to claim what belonged to them, and the Court ruled against Georgia. However, Georgia in defiance of the authority continued to enforce its jurisdiction within the Cherokees' land.

Regarding the situation, Jackson did nothing about it to enforce the Court's decision and instead, he refused to protect the Native Americans from Georgia abuse.

A year later, on May 28, 1830, Jackson signed and implemented the Indian Removal Act, which authorized him to grant Indian tribes unsettled western prairie land in exchange for their ancestral homelands in the Southern states.

The act wasn't a form of negotiation with Native Americans instead, it obliged Cherokees to relocate in the territory west of the Mississippi River. And when some of the tribe's members refused to relocate, the military force intervened to force compliance.
