What does Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 require schools to do?

Title nine is a federal law, it prohibits sex-based discrimination in any of the federally funded education program or activity. It s the main purpose was to stop the use of federal money for sex-based discrimination in education programs. It applies to College, universities, elementary and secondary schools, education and training programs who receive federal financial assistance.

It was signed by the president on June 23, 1972, and is known as the title nine of the education amendments of 1972. The bill was introduced and co-authored by senator Birch Bayh and congresswoman Patsy Mink. It was also renamed as Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act. Its main aim was to amend the Higher Education Act of 1965.

It requires the school to maintain such policies and programs so that there is no discrimination against anyone based on gender. Although the elimination of discrimination against a women has received more attention as historically they were the ones who faced discrimination.
