Even though William Howard Taft and Theodore Roosevelt were progressivists, their politics and administration were different.

Roosevelt prefered rough-and-tumble politics, had many ides and schemes, but he ususally left all the details of administering to others.

Taft were calmer and approached things slower. He finished Roosevelt's job dealing with big businesses, prosecuting twice as many as Roosevelt had.

He came to the White House promising to hold Roosevelt's legacy but decided to execute the existing law than demanding new legislation from the Congress.

Generally, it is known that the Taft's administration is considered a failure because he changed the course of the progressive program started by Roosevelt to reactionary conservatism.
