What are the basic differences between colonialism and economic imperialism?

Funny isn't it? America is run off a Government that is made to serve the People of the United States, between these two it's totally different they run off of high power of a certain person in a certain society right. Colonialism is where ONE nation controls over All the other assumes all control such as things like taxes and such, as to where Imperialism is political and economical control rather than controlling they nation as a whole as Colonialism does it simply means of balance of power.
