Joining the Union would show my devotion to the antislavery cause. I do not wish to see the Union dissolved, and believe the country will not survive if it is torn apart.

The pros of joining the confederacy is that they had very strong military leaders, a very long coastline, more food production and more. They have more resources than the north which gave them victory in many battles.
