After 9/11 president George w bush and the American people where angry so that is the primary reason the war on terror gained so much traction

There were a number of events, such as the bombing of the USS Cole, that led up to the US War on Terrorism but the major event was the hijacking of airplanes and the flying of those airplanes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.
