The founders of the United States wanted a strong national government to get rid of the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation (a system with a weak national government created by the founders) caused many problems because the states had all the power so the national government wasn't able to enforce laws. Because the federal government couldn't enforce laws the national laws and policies were different for every state, this caused many disputes between the states. So, founders who were federalists (people who believe in a stronger national government) tried to convince the citizens of America that they needed a stronger national government.
