The enlightenment era or the new age was the period of intellectual and philosophical revolution which spanned between 17th century to the 19th century. It was the age of reason when scholars objectively questioned the truth and origin of things. The enlightenment period exuded uncommon influence in both the political and social sphere between 1750-1900. For instance, it influenced the American revolution, and paved way for the declaration of American independence from Britain in 1776. It also played a pivotal role in the French revolution which overthrew the monarch system and enthroned a republic. The period also influenced social debates like equality, women's right, right to vote and be voted for, civil movements against discrimination and segregation, the doctrine of separation of power, eradication dictatorship, fundamental human rights, etc. It was also instrumental in the establishment of modern systems of government like federalism.
