What were the consequences of America's Intervention with El Salvador?

The civil war in El Salvador was fought between the military-led junta government of El Salvador and the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front. El Salvador and United States are known to be strong allies which prompted the United States to send its troops to the region. The war lasted for 12 years.
