Do you think the average Roman was better off living during the Republic or the Empire? Why?

i say republic cause both the Roman Republic and Roman Empire had periods of instability which ultimately caused their demise. However, if one considers the extent of the Roman Empire and its continuation from Byzantium after the collapse of the Western Empire, then the Empire was ultimately more successful than the Republic.

Common Romans were better off in the Empire becuse they had more rights then they did in the rebublic.
