Abolitionists, people opposed to the spread of slavery, people against the Kansas-Nebraska Act, people worried about the Dred Scott Decision

    Explanation:

Many anti-slavery Whigs joined the Republican Party as the Whigs split apart. Abolitionists were very anti-slavery, and didn't want it to spread. The Republican Party grew majorly after the Kansas-Nebraska Act that allowed the state to vote whether to be slave or free. The Dred Scott decision said that the Constitution made slavery legal, so anti-slavery people did not like that.
