It began after the surrender of Nazi Germany in 1945. The alliance between the United States and Great Britain (on one hand) and the Soviet Union (on the other) started to fall apart. The Americans and British worried that the soviet domination in Eastern Europe would be permanent. Emergence of nuclear weapons and fear of communism in the United States are also reasons.
