    19th century factory conditions were extremely dangerous, low paid and definitely in unsanitary conditions. Factory owners wanted to make as much money as possible so often they would squeeze as many people into a small space as possible. Small children would often be employed as they could fit inside the machines to repair them if they broke - so they would very quickly get bored.
