The correct option is B) "They protested the treaty and petitioned Congress to overturn it". The Treaty of New Echota was signed in December 1835 in New Echota by representatives of the Cherokees (just a small group) and US state officials. This treaty was not approved by the Cherokee National Council so its leader, John Ross, protested against the treaty. Ross filed a petition to the Congress asking the treaty nullification but it was instead ratified and approved.
