    It also was a Republic and Constitutional Government based on the supreme authority of a General Court, with three powers: legislative, executive and judicial. All these powers were based on a Code, which incorporated strong theocratic principles. The law recognized that civil government was different from the ecclesiatical, but in real life, it was really subordinate to it.
