    The Incident that caused the U. S to declare war on Spain in 1898 was the USS Maine that was blow up in Havana Harbor. The Battleship Maine was blown and started to sink. The result of the war was the signing of the Treaty of Paris on 10/12/1898 that made Spain to lose its control over the remaining parts of its oversea empire that included Puerto Rico, Guam, Philippines Islands, and Cuba.
