The Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro invaded the Incan Empire in 1532, seeking riches.

Pizarro manipulated the two sides, eventually defeating both. The Spanish took over all the Incan lands within 40 years, taking vast quantities of gold, destroying the cities, and nearly erasing an entire civilization.

On November 16, 1532, Francisco Pizarro, the Spanish explorer and conquistador, springs a trap on the Incan emperor, Atahualpa.

Pizarro's men massacre the Incans and capture Atahualpa, forcing him to convert to Christianity before eventually killing him. Pizarro's timing for conquest was perfect.

Conquistadors were Spanish and Portuguese soldiers and explorers who traveled to the New World beginning in the late fifteenth century. They went in search of adventure and new economic opportunities.
