The correct answer is C) freedom of religion.

The freedom that Virginia included in its constitution that the British government had refused to give was freedom of religion.

The first English colony in the North America territory was Jamestown, Virginia, founded in 1607. Many years later, in 1779, governor Thomas Jefferson had the idea of drafting a bill that could guarantee freedom of religion to everyone in Virginia, but the bill was rejected. It was until James Madison expressed arguments stating that the state should not support Christianity as the only religion allowed to be practiced, that more people supported the idea. Finally, James Madison drafted the Bill of Rights. The 1st. Amendment provided protection form the US Constitution for freedom of speech and freedom of religion.
