    The freedom rides refer to a series of political protests against segregation in 1961, both african american and white people participated on them by riding buses together around the American South. They wanted to test the enforcement of a court order prohibiting segregation in interstate bus terminals. Their protests were pacific and consisted on the african americans sitting on the front of the bus and the whites on the back sitting in pairs, also when arriving to the bus stations the participants objective was to used the segregated facilities, such as the restrooms and the food services. As a response the found hostility and great violence in some states, the worst case was in Alabama.
