8. List the atrocities or cruelties Stalin did to the people of Russia:

There is a long list of such brutal Stalinist abuses:

- Arbitrary arrest for being suspected of anti-Soviet activities and imprisonment without legal guarantees and respect for detainees' rights;

- torture as a regular method of interrogation;

- creation of forced labors camps called "gulags" for political prisoners or disgraced party members where they lived under appalling conditions;

- unexpected massive purges in the Communist Party and the army;

- the forced collectivization of land in the USSR; millions died or were jailed for opposing it;

- deportation or dislocation of entire peoples from their original lands.
