During the colonial era, Africans and Native Americans created new cultures and societies that were a combination of ethnicities.

Since the arrival of the white English colonists to the North American territory, there was a conflictive and complicated relationship with the Native American Indian tribes. The first formal English colony in the Americas was Jamestown, Virginia in 1607. Indian and colonists relationships had more downs than ups. When slaves were needed to grow crops in large plantations, colonists bought slaves from Africa. So there were two different ethnic groups in the Americas, other than the English colonists. These Native Indians and African American slaves had to create new cultures and societies that were a combination of ethnicities.
