The core ideas of the scientific revolution caused its leading pioneers, copernicus and galileo to face formidable resistance because:

they challenged the Church and the teachings of the Bible.

Leading scientists during the Scientific Revolution often challenged the teachings of the Bible and therefore upset the teachings and power of the Church to interpret the workings of the world.

Copernicus and Galileo found through their research that the sun was the center of the universe not the Earth as Bible stated. Other researchers also found themselves at odds with the Church over the anatomy of the body, dissection, the source of disease, and the rules of nature. These important discoveries challenged the Bible and therefore challenged the power of the Church at a time when they were trying to regain power lost to the Reformation. Many of these scientists were religious men attempting to prove the Bible and Church correct but found through their studies contradiction to the Church.
