    John O'Sullivan was concerned that the past had little influence on the present. On the contrary, he was sure that the birth of the new nation marked the beginning of a modern history, which disconnected us from any dusty bygones of the previous generations. O'Sullivan was deeply concerned the the keys to succes were hidden in future only.
