The railroads at the turn of the twentieth century in the United States had huge influence in the country's demographics, economy, travel ...

Once the railroads were in function, they enabled the people to move very easily and quickly over long distances. This led to the mass movement of people towards the western part of the country, where new towns and eventually large cities started to develop.

A reason for the movement of the people and the demographic change was not just the fact that it was much easier for travel, but also because the trade and transport of goods was much easier. That led to the quick economic development of the newly inhabited regions, which in turn attracted more and more people.
