Why did some of the Jewish townspeople to the woods during the Nazi occupation? What was their life like there?

I think it was because the Jews was trying to escape from having themselves killed in the camps because they were being tortured, overworked, unfed and and kept in poor living houses so they just continue life like this as normal as possible till everything is over. Staying in the woods was a constant struggle to stay alive and not get caught, they had to try and sneak places where people would secretly give out food to them, a few would be taken in but then they risked getting killed on the spot and having their

hosts home burned down and possibly getting their host arrested for keeping Jews and killed.
