What political developments led to the beginning of the Cold War

There are a number of factors that led to the Cold War going from hostility between the USSR and the USA to a full blown global conflict.

One of the primary drivers was the formation of NATO and the admittance of Germany into NATO while at the same time the buildup and consolidation of the Eastern Bloc countries.
