How did political and economic issues play a role in the Protestant reformation in Europe

The Roman Catholic church ruled the politics and economic powers during that time. The church used indulgences to get money and build new churches and get power from powerful people. Martin Luther was strongly against the use of money to get forgiveness "from God". Once this monopoly of power was removed from the Church many other religions raised such as Lutherans, Presbyterians, Methodists, Baptists, Pentecostals.

The economic change also went to schools, before the reform people were not literate and did not had the practice to read the Bible. Martin Luther defended that people should read and study it, because of that more people acquired education what increased productivity.
