Utmost complaining was regarding the security of themselves and their lands, which were burned and destroyed by the British army. In the light of navigation act, American ships were also kept by them. Taxes were inflicting on them, without their consent. Lastly, they were also denied in many matters and were not given opportunity of "trial by jury".

The grievances were that they were underpaid (if paid at all), suffered in the cold, and died of sickness. During The Revolution, a small mutiny of soldiers took place in the New Jersey Line.
