We are talking about the Eightfold Path outlined by Buddha for his people to strictly follow. To gain the desired state of Nirvana, his followers had to follow these guidelines included in the Eightfold Path.

We are going to have into consideration step number five, which says: "the Right livelihood." If the Buddhist follower wants to get to the state of Nirvana, it has to abstain from destroying the lives of living things on earth, abstain from any kind of immoral conduct, abstain from slander, from steal, from a frivolous life and conversation, and abstain from doing any kind of harm to other people.
