    D continue Policy of Detente

Reagan understood that finacially it was not possible to put this into effect so instead it kept the other countries guessing on wether or not he would use it.

The correct answer is number 1, to build up the nation's defenses.

The United States Strategic Defense initiative nicknamed "Star Wars" had the goal of building up the nation's defenses against a Russia's missile attack.

The Strategic Defense Initiative or SDI had the aim of developing a potent defense strategy to build up the United States defense in case of a possible nuclear attack from the Soviet Union. President Ronald Reagan was the one who created the idea because he wanted to protect the United States in the remote case of an intercontinental ballistic missiles attack. Part of the defensive system would be located in space.
