Many ideas and theories encompass the initial years of Buddhism in China. Emperor Qin Shi Huang outlawed all denomination and urged the confirmation of the theory of Legalism. Even though there's a probability that Buddhist scholars may have appeared during this period. The first indication of Buddhist manuscripts in China can be traced back to the Han Dynasty which was dated from 206 BC - 220 AD, approximately 2000 years ago, where Buddhism was joined with the fundamental Taoism and folk religion.

Buddhist teachers may have arrived in the third century BC because there is evidence that the Qin Emperor ordered the destruction of the religion about 213 BC. At the time that the first Buddhist scriptures came to China, the Han Empire existed.
