Why was there a need for the comprehensive Everglades restoration plan

Because years of nitrogen and phosphorous loading and general pollution from aggressive development and sugarcane farming and led the Everglades to the brink of death.

To this day, the health of the Everglades is one of those delicate balancing acts with an unsure future.
