The Treaty of Bird's Fort was signed on September 29, 1843 between the Republic of Texas and the some of the Indian Tribes in Texas and Oklahoma. The treaty was signed to end the hostility and long warfare between the native Americans and the white settlers. When president Sam Huston started office his one of the main aim was to stop hostilities with Indians. He formed a commission to negotiate with them about the treaty.

There were 23 articles on the treaty. Some them were ceasing war, not attacking on the women and children instead of warriors. Moreover Indians can not make any treaty with enemy of Texas.

On the other hand the Texas government will send a representative to listen the complain of the Indians to ensure the fair justice over any dispute between the natives and the whites.

So it can be said that the main reason of the treaty was to establish peace between both sides.
