after the revolution, the immediate crisis was establishing a national government. why did the articles of confederation fail, and how was the constitution supposed to be a better solution?

The articles of confederation failed because:

1. The states that were meant to implement and approve the document didn't act immediately. It was 12 states that approved the document and it took them until February 1779 to do that.

2. The way the central government was designed made it to be very, very weak. It lacked powers to implement certain things.

3. In order to pass any law, Congress will need a supermajority of the states (needed 9 of 13 states) to pass any laws. So, it became very difficult to pass any legislation that cuts cross the 13 states.

4. In amending the document, it was discovered that it was practically impossible to amend.

5. Shay's rebellion exposed the government that it cannot form a military.

The constitution could have been a better solution if:

1. It promoted and encouraged federalism. There should be a division of power between the Federal/National government and state governments. The Federal government should have delegated powers while the state government should have reserved powers.

2. The Constitution create a limitation to the power available to government. The constitution gives the Federal Government a limited power.

The people have to authorize what should be constitutionally done by the government.
