    Some Americans formed political clubs known as the Democratic Societies to oppose the Federalist.

    During the 1790's the Democratic Societies were created to start a well established political organization that served as an opposition to the federal government. The first democratic society was founded in 1793 in Philadelphia. Michael Leib and Peter Muhlenberg founded an organization under the name of the German Republican Society of Philadelphia. That detonated the creation of another six democratic societies in the same city. The democratic societies pretended to supervise the ideals of the American Revolution in the actions of the government.
