Women were not mentioned in the Declaration of Independence or in the Constitution. The famous sentence from the Declaration says "all men are born equal." This of course was not accepted by women in general, but the problem was that the suffragette movement wasn't developed back then. Women in that period were still mostly engaged in house-works.
