Deng Xiaoping ruled the People's Republic of China from 1978 to 1992.

His economic policy was known as the Open Door Policy which involved extending a friendly and suitable environment to foreign businesses that wanted to set up in the country. It opened up the country to foreign investments which was highly beneficial in its economic growth.
