How long did the nation follow Washington's lead on neutrality?

    From 1793 - 1939.

    Explanation:

    Washington believed that we needed to focus in our Nation, not in others. This was aimed to prevent an expansionist policy.

    But this stopped when President Roosevelt decided to participate in International events, like the Panama Canal or his negotiation in the Russian War. So, President Roosevelt procured to defend our National interests in South America and other regions.

    1) The nation followed the precedent set by Washington until 1940. This unwritten rule was made official by the 22 Amendment. The first and only president to have more than two terms was Franklin D. Roosevelt who ran for the third term because of the WW2.
