    Yalta Conference also known as the Crimean Conference was held from 4 to 11 February 1945. It brought together top three Allied leaders Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin from Britain, United States and Soviet Union respectively to dicuss post-war world.

    2. Germany Surrenders

    On May 7 1945, Germany officially surrendered resulting into an end of European conflict in World War 2. German High Command, in the person of General Alfred Jodl, signs the unconditional surrender of all German forces, East and West, at Reims, in northwestern France

    3. Japan surrenders

    The atomic bombings on Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6 and 9 August respectively forced Imperial Japan to announce surrender on August 15 1945. It was formally signed on September 2, 1945, bringing the hostilities of World War II to a close.

    4. The Cold War begins.

    At end of World War II, Britain was exhausted, Germany was destroyed, Imperial Japan was devastated leaving the United States and the Soviet Union as the ony formidable powers in the world. However both powers went into Cold war that lasted for decades. These two power had conflicting ideologies which fueled the hostilities.
