He served with excellence as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces. He negotiated an armistice in the Korean War. He supported the construction of the Interstate Highway System. It is also important to acknowledge what he didn't do. Mainly that he didn't adopt policies that endangered the strong economic growth that is connected with the 1950s. He also avoided doing anything that would risk the relations with the United States and Russia to become even more sour.
