Its main objectives were to eliminate the problems which were caused by industrialization, immigration, and urbanization. The progressives targeted political machines, demanded the regulation of monopolies and also the prohibition of alcoholic beverages. Progressives also joined the local government's finance, railroads, and churches. Middle-class whites were first progressives.
