In Ancient Greece, Sparta was very peculiar, the army was the most important thing to the Spartan state and the ideal of a good citizen was to be an excellent soldier. The Spartan Constitution and its social system was focused on the military. The higher social status, known as the homoioi (which means equals and had all the rights) received an education centered on war and military.
