How did increased car ownership affect the overall economy?

Car ownership created a demand for car building materials and support industries (gas stations, road construction, etc.), which created more middle class jobs.

People were able to live farther away from their place of employment.

There is no way classic rock would exist without the automobile!

Shorter work commutes led to increased production and wages.
