Nativism can be defined as the policy of promoting interests of native inhabitants against the intersts of immigrants and also includes supporting immigration-restriction measures. Nativism in America has been practiced for a very long time. For example, the early naturalization laws only permitted white European citizens, the Nativists such as Know-Nothing objected the German and Irish migration to the Americas and the congress also passed the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1882 which barred Chinese immigration to US.
