Why did Quixote attack the windmill in the field?

He thought it was watching him.

He thought it was a giant.

He believed it was an evil omen.

He believed it would impress Sancho.

    He think the 30 some windmills are giant runs into the windmills and knocks them over. sancho tries to talk sense into him sancho is almost like a protector
