    I suppose the answer depends on what is meant by "best matches." Erik the Red founded the Norse settlement in Greenland. Leif Erikson grew up in Greenland and set out from their to pursue further explorations.

    Erik Thorvaldsson, known as Erik the Red, lived around 1000 AD. He is famous in Norse history as founder of the first Norse settlement in Greenland. According to Icelandic sagas, he was born in Norway before his travels. He is known as "Erik the Red" likely because of the color of his hair and beard.

    Leif Erikson was the son of Erik the Red. He led the first European expedition to the North American continent, before Columbus "discovered" the "New World" here. The Norse expedition led by Leif Erikson landed in the region we know as Newfoundland in modern Canada.
