A restaurant owner in the south violated Jim Crow laws by letting an African American eat in the restaurant. In the United States history, Jim Crow laws refer to any law that enforces racial segregation. In 1870, laws were passed requiring the separation of whites from "persons of color" in schools and public transportation which later was extended to parks, theatres, cemeteries, and restaurants to prevent any contact between blacks and whites as equals.
