The Maori tribes fought against the troops of the Crown in the New Zeland Wars in the 1840s and 1860s. The consequence is that the Crown confiscated the land of the tribes that fought on the war. Almost 2,500 Maori died as well as 600 British soldiers. The government of New Zeland imprisioned some other Maoris and also confiscated big land portions in the Northern territories.
